Since the previous thread OP doesn't update the list since he was last seen a few months ago, I'd decide I'll update it. The thread can be found here. This is an update really. Everything from there will be added here but also more detail
Credit for most of this given to DonnieHD.
Green = Massive FPS increase
Orange = Average FPS increase
Red = Small FPS increase
BLACK = Not sure
(If it contains more than 1 color, it means the FPS increase varies depending on the method use)
1. Optifine
You most likely have heard off this mod, if you have it installed, go on to my next step. Basically, Optifine is a Minecraft Mod that is very widely used for people with low end computers with low fps, it is guaranteed to double your FPS, what it does is go into the settings that vanilla Minecraft cannot change, such as Animations being turned off, the BEST settings for Optifine will be in the video link above. To install Optifine, watch this video:
USE MULTI-CORE RENDERING IF YOU HAVE A DUEL CORE CPU, OR MORE.
Optifine = http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic...d3-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and-much-more/
2. Gamebooster
Gamebooster is a third party program which will optimize your computer for gaming for a limited period of time until you turn it back to Normal mode, it stops all background programs which are not needed to run the game, while keeping your Computer drivers and system32 files running to keep your computer stable which will give the game more CPU to run which will result in a faster game, it's a free download and its a small file size and is very user friendly, download it here:

If you need help on how to install and use it, watch this video:
3. Update yourGraphics Drivers
This is a very common way of increasing your FPS, with all the new high tech games coming out, Graphic Cards need to be updated to keep up with them, so outdated graphics cards cannot handle the new games, although Minecraft is a low res game, it is still quite hard to run for bad graphics cards, a 50% increase in FPS is common, look here for how to update them to the most recent version:
4. Clear your Temp data
This will clear all the background files that are stored by other programs, very similar to Internet Cache, basically the files your ram is storing. To clear this, go to Start -> Run -> Type "%temp%" -> Will open a folder -> delete all files in the folder, leave the ones that aren't possible to delete.
5.Close down all programs apart from Minecraft
For every program you have open, it will use up more CPU and RAM which means less is allocated to Minecraft itself, which means a slower game, so No Internet browsers, no skype, no programs basically!
6. Optimize your Windows for Gaming
The term "Optimize", you've heard it allot of times, what does it actually mean? well it means it will set your Windows to run best for games and nothing else, making Games run faster, I can't tell you how to do it as every Version of Windows is different, so check out these links below on how to Optimize your windows:
Windows 7 -
Windows xp -
Windows Vista -
7. Defrag your Hardrive
*will be updated soon (never)*
8. BUY A BETTER PC
Find somebody who can build you a cheap gaming computer, this will solve your problem instantly, it will run Minecraft very smoothly for a cheap price!
9. Fps++
This is suggested by chockadlad I haven't tried this, but you can give it a go!
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1350464-15fishtacos-mods-fps-lava-decay-fog-key-and-more/
10. Decrease Window Resolution
Do not play Minecraft on Full Screen or Maxed screen, if you do, it runs a lot smaller, reduce the screen size to about half way, increases of 50% in FPS is very common
11. Use a low res texture pack / Use default
I would ALWAYS recommend you use default, but if your computer is average, you can use 32x32 and MAYBE 64x64
12. Allocate more RAM to Minecraft
Allocating more Ram gives Minecraft more free space to run, which means less lag spikes and more fun! You can install Magic Launcher to Allocate more, here's a how to:
13. Windows Task Manager
When using Minecraft, it uses a certain type amount of memory process. It usually runs on Normal which means you'll be on Normal process. To gain higher FPS and speed, open up Task Manager. To do this, you go on the homescreen and right-click and click 'Open Task Manager' > Find the file jawaw.exe with the higher memory process > Set Priority > Choose either Above Normal or High, DO NOT do Realtime or something may happen to your PC or crashes could happen. > Click Ok. This might gain you more FPS but will depend on the processor and memory.
14. Use low settings
This is quite important of gaining FPS. The higher the settings are, the more you lag. This all depends on the processor and GPU. RAM might not matter but atleast 6+ is useful. If you have optifine, hover over the option and it will suggest what to choose. If you don't have Optifine, the suggestions will not be shown while hovering over an option. The lower it is, the better!
TOPIC WILL BE UPDATED, POST BELOW YOUR METHODS AND IF THEY WORK, THEY WILL BE ADDED TO THE THREAD, THANK YOU.
CHANGELOG:
1.1: Added Fps++, Colored Methods
1.2: Added Method 11 & 12
1.3 Added some optifine details
==============================================================================
1.4: Added Windows memory usage and affinity.
1.4.5: Added Methold 13 & 14
Please do not lock this thread, I do want to revive and update this since the original OP mysteriously hasn't came on and updated the thread.
