I was just watching some hungercraft, and I kinda like on the games they play that they have the capacity to mine. I don't think the Minecraft Survival Games maps currently lend themselves to that all that much, but I think that it would be cool to be able to mine certain blocks. Things like wood, iron, coal, dirt, stone, and cobble should, at least in my opinion, be harvestable.

But then people can make secret bases underground and mine into underground chest rooms. People need to rely on chests for most of their needs. The offical rules of The Survival Games is not to break any blocks except for leaves, mushrooms and flowers.

Yeah this wouldn't be fair. Also you can get sticks and planks from wood, which would make getting a sword to easy.

Only if you allow all blocks to be mined. You could keep things like brick, stone brick, wool, or other materials that surround chest rooms from being breakable

Isn't it a little unfair that the only weaponry is from chests though? It seems to me like there should be some way to get weapons outside of map memorization.

You have 3 iron ingots and 2 sticks, what do you make? A pickaxe to maybe find diamond to mine or a sword?

Yes it should only be from chests. If you could just mine, the game would go so much slower because people would hide in mineshafts and get a free diamond sword from so much mining. It would be too easy to get items because all you do is go to some underground area and there is your sword. It should be from chests because that way only the players that actually worked get swords. That actually bothered to run around chest finding, instead of camping in a mineshaft collecting diamonds.

I think they should allow you to only mine ores, cause there are so m any laying around. It makes using your iron much more interesting if you want to craft a pickaxe

Well if they still couldn't make torches then mining down would be risky buisiness, because monsters would spawn.

No, this is what makes the Survival Games unique compared to servers such as McPvp's Hunger Games.

You don't see people digging mines and searching for ore in the Hunger Games... and this also gives xrayers more unfair advantages.
