As long as you aren't attempting to mislead people as to your identity or nationality and as long as everyone knows it's inoffensive and just for fun, can a channel of all Americans do British/Aussie/etc accents (and vice versa)? Or does this new, all-encompassing "Do Not Change The Sound, Pitch, etc. of Your Voice" rule include that?

Come to think of it, I think that whole rule might need some extrapolation. Except in the case of actual voice-changing software, it's kind of ambiguous how far "changing your voice" and what situations in which you do this are disallowed. I mean, are we just supposed to use common sense? I'm no master at that and I can assure you that members who are far younger than I aren't either. :p

Uhm...

Part of my entire humorous skit for streaming is changing the pitch of my voice to a super high falsetto...

:/

And what if I have a British accent naturally but I'm not in any way British? ;_;

Personally, I wouldn't ban for that, as long as you aren't using it in a negative way, or to troll people.

It really matters on intent in doing so- if you're just doing an accent for fun, with your friends, and every else in the channel is fine with you doing so, I see no problem with it whatsoever :)

However, if you're doing it with the goal to annoy others around you, or to generally 'pester' people, I'd say that it would be best to avoid doing that :)

(Same goes for the other things you mentioned. If you are doing it with the purpose of trolling, it won't be allowed because trolling isn't, but if you're just doing it for fun, and everyone in the channel is ok with it taking place, it's totally fine :) It's not so much the voice we'd punish for in this case, it'd be the intent you have with it)

Question answered; Thread Locked :)

Feel free to contact me with any further questions- I'd be happy to help!

From my notes during the Staff Q&A
What is your standpoint on voice actors? Like, am I allowed to change my voice?
  • That rule fits under voice changers. However, you can do it as long as everyone consents to it.
If someone objects to you altering your voice in any way, shape, or form, I suggest you stop, otherwise it may become quite the issue. Duck had answered the question correctly.
