US is hosted in Arizona, and CA is hosted somewhere on the East Coast of North America. If you live on the East Coast and are concerned with ping, play on CA when you can. I'm in Florida, and get a steady ~20 less ping to CA than US.
I heard somewhere that MCSG was thinking of switching or adding servers to a Dallas location? I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that.
Also, it's because the datacenter is located there. CubedHost, which is the server host that MCGamer buys servers from, has a host in these locations:

(let me know if the image fails to load.)
There's Arizona and Virginia options for US, and as it stands US MCG is hosted in Arizona. CA looks like it is hosted in Montreal, but again I don't have any confirmation on that.

Also, Miami buddies! *high five* I live near there too c: I was there earlier today.
Well that settles it. I knew it was in Montreal and that Australia was hosted in Sydney, but for some reason I always thought that US was hosted in Chicago for some reason. I'm not sure to be honest.

Do you use an Ethernet cord? It can make quite a large change in ping. Also, the quality of your internet router and provider can make a small difference.
Also, by no means is 50 ping bad. I get ~90 to US, and can PvP fine.

I used to get maybe 130 to US before using one, and with one I get 89-90, and it's MUCH more steady. No more unsteady ping c;

Ethernet and wireless work the same for me, I did a speedtest.
And I know that is good ping, but it can be better, and I want to work on getting it to the best possible low.
There are unskilled players with ~10 ping who just come in with a sword, sometimes kill them, sometimes I dont. :p

Mooclan essentially got it right.

CA is hosted in Beauharnois, Québec, Canada (this on the outskirts of Montreal) by the hosting company OVH.

US is hosted in Phoenix, Arizona by the hosting company PhoenixNAP. However, US has a bit of a distinction - because of its proximity to some of our developers we actually colocate the hardware. This means that we've actually ordered the servers (we own them) and then we pay PhoenixNAP to provide an uplink and actually power them. Here's a picture of CubedHost's Phoenix servers. Some of these are MCGamer's servers: http://imgur.com/a/Ddh2r

EU is hosted in one of 3 locations in France (the actual location varies depending on the server's specs) by the hosting company OVH.

AU is hosted in Sydney, Australia by the hosting company Servers Australia.

EDIT: As i look back at Mooclan's post about US being hosted at Arizona and Virginia, I find it hard to believe that i still get 80~ ping connected to Virginia (thats whats I'm assuming since its closer to me than Arizona)

Also how do we know what Server we connect to?

Arizona? Virginia?

For the US region, all the servers are in Phoenix, Arizona.

The mixup with Virginia is because MCGamer used to have servers in Virginia for a short time (but not anymore) and CubedHost still offers servers in both of these locations.

Don't mean to sound rude but if CubedHost offers a virginia host to US servers why don't we use both then?
