Optifine Capes

Make sure you go to your Multiplayer settings and make sure "Show Capes" is on

You need to have optifine installed to be able to see your own cape and others.

I do have optifine downloaded and the multiplayers settings are capes on

Probably, it wouldn't be the first time.

Then maybe I was right, optifine could be in maintenance for an update or something.

I'm having the same issue, as well as many others. From what I've heard, the cape servers are currently down, along with Optifine.net itself. They should be back up fairly soon, so just be patient.
