How does the banning system work?

Last night me and a friend were playing survival games as we normally do, we fairly beat a player in deathmatch and in response to this he reported us and subsequently had us banned. This is absolutely outrageous, without any proof we were both banned and the cause of this was a sore loser who couldn't handle being beaten. Both me and my friend are generally well behaved players who have always played fair and followed the rules; We have never used hacks and we never will! I have sent in a plea to get unbanned but I still remain banned, both my friend and I found it very disappointing that this kind of thing could happen, it would be great if we could find a solution to this issue so we could get into the game!

I must add that my friend was experiencing connection issues at the time thus causing a little confusion. If you need proof that I am not hacking you can check my stats... they're not fantastic to say the least!
