So, today this video was posted.
There is the inthread video if you're too lazy :p

So, basically this video states that a Player had bought (or had been given, doesnt state) a VIP Status on a server, and his account was hacked and had messaged Mojang about getting his account back. The person at Moajng replied that, his account cannot be saved AND that the server's selling that rank was breaking Mojang's Terms and Services.

It was also stated that Mojang had contacted servers about said issue and they had promised to "change" their ways of selling things. Of course, this never happened.

Some people say that Mojang can't do this and they would lose a ton of their players while others say that they can do this, and will.

So, what do you think?

So...Mojang is trying to outlaw the sale of ranks on servers? That seems stupid, seeing as a ton of people play Minecraft for MP and without money to keep the servers going...Mojang will lose a lot of players, and cause the downfall of so many people: server owners and even big YouTubers who rely on YT money.

To be honest, this is probably gonna be about that stupid trolling thing. When a lot of kids had a little cry because they weren't able to troll anyone on minecraft.
My point is, Mojang won't go as far as to stop all servers from selling things. It would end up with lots of problems.
- They will lose a TON of players.
- They will stop what some people may use as a living.
- They will recieve a lot of hate. (Death Threats, DDOS and all that horrible stuff.)
They can't and won't change the rules on that with a community like minecraft has got.

Regardless of whether or not they will, but it WAS outlined that it wasn't allowed, yet everyone is.

True, but I don't think they will enforce it. The consequences to Mojang and Minecraft would be too vast.

Mojang is not stupid; far from it actually. They know that Minecraft will crash and burn without servers selling ranks.

Keep in mind: it may be against the rules for servers to sell ranks for money.

However, MCGamer does not sell ranks! MCGamer gives perks for your donations. Technically on MCGamer ranks aren't sold - they are donated for! ^_^

*Edit: Technically MCGamer does sell ranks for money, and Mojang won't allow perks in exchange for donations, so yeah...

Taken straight from Google
  1. 1.
give or hand over (something) in exchange for money.
    "they had sold the car"
    synonyms: put up for sale, offer for sale, put on sale, dispose of, vend, auction (off);

Mojang is trying to outlaw servers gaining profit so the owners can't keep the servers running? That's what I'm hearing. That sounds stupid. What would happen to the popular servers if this happened?

It basically isn't a donation. You give money to get something - a purchase. So all servers should pay taxes in this situation, but as far as I know you don't have to pay taxes when using Buycraft...

Correct, you dont. I'm 100% sure Mojang would allow it if they were getting some sort of Tax, but they can't and aren't.
