1.8 Barriers!

I know its too early to usggest because 1.8 is still very far from done, but I wanted to mention this idea already so it can be taken into consideration.
We've all probably heard about the new /barrier function that will be included in 1.8 and how it can both shrink and expand.
Basically, for those who dont know, the barrier commands set up a wall around a certain perimeter that is impossible to go through and anything that gets caught outside it suffocates. One extra function this barriers have is that they can be set up either shrink or expand on a certain ammount of time, specified in the command.
I just thought this could be good for death matches since it is a very good way to make the players fight as their space gets smaller and smaller instead of running!
These barriers could also be useful to make special maps where, instead of being a certain time before DM, the map just keeps on shrinking and forces players to go to the center.

Over all, I think this will be a great addition that could proove to be very useful for Survival Games!

Kind of sounds like Mineplex, With the enclosing snow as the time in the match ticks down. I personally believe, though, that MCSG Deathmatch system (with the lightning) Is efficient enough, But what I believe this could be used for, Is to make the survival games a bit more like the hunger games. They could maybe make the existing barriers around maps have this suffication type thing making it so that when you bump into the glass you take damage, keeping you away from the boundaries a little more. Good topic.

I like it, but... what if I just killed a 2 team and I randomly get suffocated because I cannot see anything :/

I would definitely love to see the current glass domes replaced with this barrier. It looks like it might only work for square areas though....
maybe some square maps could start to come in to make use of it!

Yes, I thought about that too.

One of the few obstacles with this right now seems to be the fact that the barriers cannot be round. Im not sure if this would be possible to solve... maybe with a plugin for the server? I dont know.
My point is... they still could get soem kind of use, they have good potential!

Could be used but I'd rather have lightning, once you hear that bang you know for sure that it's closing in and it ups the tempo of the fight, suffocating would sort of be an anti-climax.
