Swear Filter Suggestion

Before you read, bear in mind that I'm kinda tired while I write this, so it'll have a bad thread design and possible spelling and grammar mistakes.


Recently, I've found that the swear filter has gotten rather useless. I don't mean to bash on the dev's hard work, but when the only words that are getting bleeped out are the simple "Good, bunnies, Bunny Lover, etc.", people bypass it really easily. They can just easily type in something like "s h i t, bunnies, b!tch, etc.".

My suggestion is that the devs add to the swear filter these words that people use to bypass it. This would make words like "d!ck, sh.it," and so on #@&% instead. I'm not sure if adding these things would be hard, but in my imagination it's as easy as going to the filter and typing in there for a good couple of minutes.

This would take a bit of time to think and type in all the most obvious bypassing words, there are probably at least 10 variants for each word. The only con/problem that I can think of would be that they would be able to somehow find an easy variant of the word that we haven't added to the filter and use it continuously. But if we add as many as we can think of, I don't think that it'll be a problem.

(Also, I've noticed that the word asshole isn't getting bleeped. I don't know if this is an accident or it is considered a minor swear word, but I personally think it could and should be fixed.)

Now, this is kind of a minor thing. I personally think that if it is to be added, it should probably be on or near the bottom of the devs priorities list.

In regards to this, we've already expanded our filter to catch the most obvious evasions. But we've discovered that even that was rather pointless, since there are practically an infinite amount of ways for people to misconstrue a swear word to evade the filter. Alphabet characters, numeric characters, symbolic characters, spaces, and deletions all will work, and it's not realistic for us to add in every permutation of their usage into our filter to do so.

This is why we have moderators who punish for filter evasion.
