Hello,

I have recently heard of a possible solution to the ever-present issue of regeneration hackers, this is a solution that I have decided to put into writing in order to make it more clear and understandable to the rest of the community. The basic plan entails modifying the NCP[No Cheat Plus] plugin to be tailored for a specific need.

  • Edit NCP to disallow the use of God/Notch Apples.
The God/Notch apple is a rare item that can be used to allow the player the following effects:
  • Regeneration 5 for 30 seconds.
  • Absorption for 2 minutes.
  • Resistance for 5 minutes.
  • Fire resistance for 5 minutes.
The effect that I wish to focus on is that of the Regeneration V for 30 seconds, this is obviously not possible using an unmodified client and evidently without consuming the item. The plugin would need to detect whether the player is under the influence of this specific item (if they had not eaten the item there would be no conceivable way in which regeneration could happen at this rate) and take appropriate measures to counteract the effects of this: e.g. kick/ban.
Pros:

  • Stops the use of regeneration hacks.
  • Cuts down on the work of mods to keep the community safe from these types of offenders.
Cons:
  • Although very rare and almost impossible, players would not be allowed to craft God/Notch apples (requiring 72 golden ingots).
  • False detection e.g. could detect the use of a regular golden apple and the regeneration cycle at the same time to give an effect of Regeneration V (needs to be proven and made plausible).
  • More work on developers already hectic schedule.
  • Could be bypassed with a slower rate of regeneration, yet still hacking.
If possible it would be beneficial to this thread if a player with a history in this field would post below commenting on the validity of the idea.

[WARNING] This solution is not developed, thought of or endorsed by myself. I have seen it being mentioned several times before in a variety of communities.

Problem is, Regen hacks have nothing to do with regeneration potion effects. What they do is speed up the player's individual time, allowing for quick regen and quickly losing fire.

I believe that to NCP these are one and the same. If it sees a player gain hearts at a certain rate (an arbitrary threshold) it flags it up, regardless if by potion or by hacks.

With all that's been said in this thread, there are different methods implemented on other networks that have successfully stopped regeneration, so stopping it isn't impossible.

I think the modded client increases tick rate which would also have numerable detrimental effects on the player including rapid drowning in water to name one, I don't think the server recognises regeneration with measuring tick rate. Although I have no experience in this field, wouldn't the server receive information about the health of a player and therefore drawing a conclusion to decipher whether the player is under the same effects as the Notch apple?

I actually did get over 75 gold ingots in a game once. Didn't put them to use. (It was a long game.)
