Have you ever had to ask a Moderator or any Staff member a question? And when you do they don't reply, and no one in the chat tells you that they are gone.

Well if the was a way to tell you that a staff member is AFK wouldn't that be more efficient? Well I thought of a way when you press the 'tab' key there is an AFK sign next to the staff members name. Also when you are typing their name in chat and you use the tab key to finish their name once you send the message it gives you an indication that the staff member is AFK and may not reply. The AFK is activated by a command (/afk) or by a 5 minute timer.

Example:
[AFK] @Rustywolf

I think the tab feature is within Minecraft itself, so you cant change what their name is when you tab, to my knowledge. Would be a cool idea if our fab devs could figure out a way to do it.

Yes, you can do that. Nicknames, some prefix plugins, and an assortment of other plugins are able to change their "Displayname" as I think it's called? Although I don't think the Essentials /nick command does it, unless there's some configuration that I haven't tried out yet.

I like the idea. It would not be at all difficult to implement, and would let members know why their questions are sometimes not being answered.

As a bukkit dev myself, I will explain it.

As of right now, the developers have made the /d but the player is still there meaning you can still tab them if you knew their name. Even with the staff members, they are STILL there meaning you can still tab them if you know their name even if they dont show up on /list (it isnt really a game list, it just calls anyone who has the listOn (or what ever tag they have on) so anyone using /d or /staffmode (or the staff command) removes them)

The tab list is a true list. Its VERY difficult to change it as it takes a lot of code to even get able to change the name. Just trust me, it would take a while then you have to edit the tags, make sure the timer works, have the timer time the right time etc.

It would just be added to the ever growing pile on the developers desk.

I mean when you are typing their and you use tab to finish off their name

Example: Rust (tab) Rustywolf can I have your help?
[MCGamer]Rustywolf is AFK and maybe not respond
