On December 23rd I emailed Forairan about a map my build team was working on. I outlined the details and asked a number of questions pertaining to the functionality of certain features. I never received a reply.

On January 2nd I emailed Devin about the same questions. I did not receive a reply.

In late January I posted a few of my questions in a public homepage thread that was receiving a lot of attention, tagging Forairan in the post. I received a reply for the few questions I put there. It appeared to myself and the rest of the team that the only reason we got a reply was because there was public pressure.

Nicknataw, a member of the TeamPasta build team, spoke with Dave on Teamspeak. He asked a few questions but was told to email Dave as he couldn't answer them at the moment. (He was busy, it's understandable.) This was the email that was sent minutes later. Note that Nicknataw was a Mod at the time.

Hi Dave, As I said in the teamspeak chat a few moments ago, me and a couple of other builders are in the process of building a map. A map that is closer to being finished than not. Since a couple of us have played the new Catching Fire map with the plugin, we were considering making our map one that would fit the standards of a Quater Quell map as well as a normal survival games map. Our map is based off New York City, so I'm not sure how we would incorporate many of the "disasters" that Devin has made for the Catching Fire map. For example, the new map has a volcano that erupts lava as one of the disasters. Would our map have to mimic this setup in order to incorporate the plugin? Or can we just omit that disaster all together? Are you looking for maps that are similar to Catching Fire to be in the new gametype? I'm sure you haven't given a lot of thought to this as the map that the plugin was intended for hasn't even be released yet. We just want to be prepared. Furthermore, we had a couple of other questions regarding what we can use in our map to make it more.. unique. You can find them below.
  • What are the developers/map committee looking for in a Quarter Quell map?

  • Do we have to incorporate all the disasters into our map, or can we pick and choose?

  • Can we use a TNT Plugin custom made for our map?

  • Do Quarter Quell maps have to be a perfect circle or can they be an ellipse?

  • Can all maps use the Force Field displayed in the Catching Fire map?

  • Can we use command blocks? (I’ve asked this before and got many, many different responses)

  • Can we use NBT-Edited Monster Spawners (similar to MCEdit spawners) if they do not require redstone?

  • Can we use command blocks to create a “deathmatch” song rather than using complicated redstone and noteblocks? (The command blocks use /playsound to play the sound to all players regardless of how close they are, meaning the redstone could be anywhere. Also, noteblocks are quite laggy, while command blocks create almost no lag!)

  • Can we have custom mobs? (Spawned with armour, weapons, names, health level, etc)

It has been over a month since the email was send and we have not received a reply. Nicknataw has since resigned as moderator.

A week later Nick attempted contacting him over Skype to no avail. Multiple attempts were made through 1/4/14 to 2/5/14 to contact a member of staff who we believed could answer our questions.

On February 6th 2014 following a post on the MCSG home page stating the following:
"Wanted: Map makers who can make Quarter Quell style maps! ... If you are interested, please contact Dave or a member of our community build team for details on map requirements!" I started a conversation with Dave as instructed on the post and after five days without a response also messaged the Map Committee account with a similar message, but much more information. (This was on 2/11/14)

I received a reply from the Map Committee account on February 17th. It suggested I add CaptButterToast to the conversation which I promptly did. I waited five days before joining MCGamer Teamspeak and opening a chat with CBT. I let him know that it would be really appreciated if he would read and reply to the conversation about TeamPasta's Quarter Quell map. No reply. (I was in the middle of a mod meeting)



TL;DR I and the rest of TeamPasta are frustrated with the lack of communication between Staff and regular members. We have been repeatedly pushed aside for "more important matters" and ignored by the higher staff. When asked to message a staff member/committee member about either the questions or requirements for the map, we still did not get a reply. I don't know if it's simply that we are not important enough, our emails were filtered away by a spam bot, or staff don't check forum messages. But all we want are answers. We want to know the requirements. Without them we are "building blind".

I would like to give a shout-out to Tree_TheBigKind for responding immediately to my questions about the KitPvP arena. You saved my map from potential disqualification. :)

Columbus Circle, a map based off a real location in New York, has been in development for over five months. We have met the requirements for a standard MCSG map, but our map was primarily made for Quarter Quell. We began with the layout of an MCSG map, but after being informed about the QQ gametype over a month before public release and before plugin development had even began, we decided to alter our map to fit with the gametype. Our small team of four members have each individually invested hundreds of hours into the map. We are now reaching about 80% completion and still have no idea what we can and can not do. A large part of our map relies on the fact that there be only eight sections in our clock.

I do not know what to say to this. I feel bad that all your time and effort into this map hinges on some of your questions, but I don't feel like the staff are ignoring you either. For example, Devin has been very busy lately with a lot of stuff (especially with moo resigning), and the higher staff must be occupied with the flurry of mod resignations. I suggest you just keep trying to get in contact, because one of these days people will have to respond to your questions.

Patience is key. It took me and my fellow map builders a long time to get the VIP rank, but you just have to keep trying and be patient.

If you did email me at my proper email (either [email protected] or [email protected]), I did not receive it.

  • What are the developers/map committee looking for in a Quarter Quell map? Nothing in particular, just keep in mind that environmental disasters are a huge part of any Quarter Quell map.
  • Do we have to incorporate all the disasters into our map, or can we pick and choose? It'd be preferable to incorporate all of the disasters, but if you cannot, that's fine.
  • Can we use a TNT Plugin custom made for our map? Custom plugins are not allowed, however depending on the feature, we may be willing to implement custom features into our plugin specific to the map.
  • Do Quarter Quell maps have to be a perfect circle or can they be an ellipse? A perfect circle is preferable, due to the way the forcefield works.
  • Can all maps use the Force Field displayed in the Catching Fire map? Not quite sure what you're asking here - clarification?
  • Can we use command blocks? (I’ve asked this before and got many, many different responses) No, at least not at the moment.
  • Can we use NBT-Edited Monster Spawners (similar to MCEdit spawners) if they do not require redstone? Yes, but please specify that you have used them so we can set the appropriate values in the configuration to allow mob spawning.

I really appreciate your reply. I have one final question: You did say above that if necessary we can pick and choose events, does that mean we don't need 12 even sections? As you can see in the diagram below, it works perfectly with 8, but 12 would not.

Due to the way a clock works (being 24 hours a day split into two 12-hour sections), I'm not sure how possible it would be to have only 8 sections. However, you do not need all the sizes of the sections to be equal.
