1st grade actually... that's what it is in Poland I'm a freshman in the polish high school right now, which is equal to the American 11th grade ^_^

8th grade seems to be far and away the most common grade here...I thought 9th would be

Yeah, that isn't 100% true either. I live in Alberta and it was different.
Preschool was the same.
Elementary was K-6.
Junior High is 7-9.
Highschool is 10-12.
College/University is so on.
