I'm a bit late with the times. I've been playing Minecraft for almost 3 years, all with the double tap W. Since 1.7 I've failed to switch my sprint key, and now I'm considering to -- yet which key?

Qs:
  • What did you guys set the new 1.7 sprint key to?
  • How did you get out of the habit of not pressing double tapping W?
  • Also, is it worth it? (Giving up something you've practiced for so long?)

Thanks.

  • What did you guys set the new 1.7 sprint key to? Tab
  • How did you get out of the habit of not pressing double tapping W? Practiced PvP over and over to get used to it.
  • Also, is it worth it? (Giving up something you've practiced for so long?) In the long run, yes. It may be weird at first but in the long run you will become better.

I set mine to Q and rebinded (rebound?) My drop key to Z.

Some people have switched the default left Control button to their caps lock or tab key, but I find Q is easiest with it's placement right next to W.

I haven't used double tap W sprint. I was terrible with it from the start, lul.

Lastly, it was worth it for me because I was already, erm, used to it.

I set mine to tab, as its right next to my hand position and easy to press and hold down.
To get used to it I nolifed 40-50 classic games on a weekend and I found myself playing much better with it.
In the long run, yes, it is worth it. You will find it much easier to PvP.

I set it to Shift, because I've always had my drop key on X because it's too close to "W". My crouch key is Q.

I learned quickly because my keyboard was an absolute piece of crap, so I simply stopped double tapping "w".

It honestly depends if you have a decent keyboard or not. I find my pvp better with 1.6 sprint because I often just sprint right by the user.

Thanks, this is actually pretty helpful.

1.I set it to R idk why but i do
2.I just keep holding it and i naturally got used to it
3.For me i'm too used to double tapping because i played minecraft since beta until now because Sprint key makes running easy as you press 1 button and it will run and it makes PVP both easier and more challenging if you meet Better PVPers and when you run sometimes you just wobble and people just can easily chase up than your like raging at the sprint but now with the sprint key you hardly even wobble almost impossible. So its definitely an ease for my sprinting ;)

Either shift/caps would most likely be the best option.
It allows you to use all your movement keys at once unlike some other hotkeys.
Anything works really, but I'd just try to stay away from keys that make you use your Middle/Ring/Pointer finger since those are the main fingers you use to move/strafe (That is if your keys are default movement hotkeys) and try to use something that you can use with your pinky.
