So, as I think everybody has been able to see, the leaderboards have not been updated lately. The complaints are entirely justified, and it is, to a large extent, my fault that updates are so infrequent. However, beyond my activity (or lack thereof), there are numerous issues with the new ELO system that make it much harder to keep the leaderboards running as smoothly as they need to. Often times, multiple clans challenge the same clan, challenge a clan they are unable to, challenge the same clans over and over again to gain ELO, etc.

The ELO system is being abused, and it's not fulfilling its role of trying to breathe new life into MCSG clans. It's harder for the staff to update or manage, clans just challenge the easiest competition in an attempt to ELO farm, and I get the feeling that a large percentage of people simply don't get how the system works. As such, I will be reverting the leaderboards back to the original ranking system. The ELO system was a good experiment, but it simply didn't work as intended.

With this change, I will be able to actively update the thread (at least once a day). Thank you to everyone who has expressed concerns for the health of the leaderboards and suggested ideas for improving it. The leaderboards are only going to be as good as the clans that make it up, and taking an active interest in seeing it succeed will help it along immensely.

I am going to be removing all the disbanded clans, and reorganizing all of the clans into a normal ranking system. If any battles have taken place since the thread was last updated that would change the rankings, please let me know so I can update it.

Challenges will be temporarily closed (for 1-2 days) until I'm confident that the thread is fully updated and prepared for any upcoming battles. Applications for new clans, however, will be open during this time.

Thank you for bearing with me, even if I haven't been running the leaderboards nearly as well as I should have been. From now on, I'm going to be updating the thread much more actively, and I will keep this system running smoothly.

EDIT: Still hope for the ELO system!!! Just no Divisions and challenge restrictions.

no lol that just leads to more easy elo boosting which is the point they are reverting. Now you have to challenge the person above you and you take their spot
We came up with an idea about challenging. You can only challenge 2 ranks down in the leaderboards. That prevents top tier clans from challenging the brand new clans to gain free ELO. But we also made it so that you may challenge 5 ranks up in the leaderboards. That is if a clan thinks that they are skilled enough to beat a higher ranked clan. It lets clans move up in the rankings at a much faster rate than if they had to climb the leaderboards one by one. I would expect clan owners to be smart enough and to challenge reasonable clans. Not for a clan like Sparta to go off and challenge Destiny. I believe it will be a good thing for up and coming clans trying to get to the top. It also prevents any sort of ELO boosting since you are not able to challenge clans that are ranked WAY below you. I also suggested raising the "k" value from 32 to 64 to make battles more meaningful. Since the "k" value in the ELO calculator was raised, clan battles will be more ELO if you win/lose. I already talked to Zeno about this and he is currently talking to more USCL staff about this matter because I believe that the ELO system will be a good representation of clan rankings after it all gets settled out.

Looking at it from my standpoint, no ELO system will work with leaderboards, just because it doesnt promote the activeness we wanted it to do. The whole point of the new system (after all I introduced the idea) was to restore the activeness that we wanted to see in US clans. The flaws in the old system were not honestly that bad, and i believe it will work when we put the old system back.

Leaderboards should be reverted back to the old ranking system; while ELO was an ambitious endeavor, it's obvious that the thread is not updated enough to accommodate the ELO system.
I'm a genius ^

More Updates:

After discussions with several of the leaderboards clan leaders, we have made the decision to continue with the ELO system, with a few modifications. The division system has been removed, and replaced with the normal ladder. Clans will be able to challenge any clan either up to three ranks above them or down to two ranks below them, and will gain or lose ELO depending on the result of the battle. However, we are changing the "k" value (or maximum change) for the calculations from 32 to 64. This change will reward clans more for beating clans ranked higher than them, so it will hopefully dissuade ELO boosting as a strategy to climb the leaderboards.

Now for some staff updates:
Staff Updates:
Austin_HG has been added to staff as a Sr. Mod and VortexClan has been added as a Referee.

Dami Rayy Lakers and Zoruo have been removed from staff.

With that change, the leaderboards are officially reopened for business. ELO/Rankings will be kept from the previous edition of the leaderboards. Challenges may now begin.

XenosMCSG Your clan has been added to the leaderboards.
BeyondClan Your challenge against Ascendancy has been recorded.
