Hey all,
Recently whilst browsing the forums, I saw a thread which was about members of the community saying "OMG How are you a mod you have bad stats" and the like. It was as if moderators needed to be good at PvP to apply.
Reading that thread got me thinking about the requirements to become a moderator. A thought crossed my mind whilst I was pondering it afterwards, which was the amount of time Moderators within our community have been here for PRIOR to them becoming a moderator.
In my honest opinion, I believe a new requirement should be made for people wishing to apply as a moderator, which is at least a 1 year commitment to MCSG prior to the application for moderator.
My reasoning behind this is as follows:

  • If Moderators have a years worth of knowledge before applying, they then should have built up enough time to know the inner workings of MC Gamer as a whole, and not just base things off prior assumptions that they may have learnt through their lives.
  • If Moderators have a years worth of experience with MC Gamer, they would be given more respect by the community, as they would be well known by the members of the community. This creates a more peaceful relationship between the staff and the members, which we all know is vital to the survival and continuation of MC Gamer.
  • If Moderators have a years worth of PvP experience which comes alongside general MC Gamer experience, they can more easily distinguish what are hacks compared to pure skill and or ping. This is a major problem within MCSG and other PvP gamemodes, as even I myself have been falsely banned for aimbot which I did not have, and I had to dispute it with recorded evidence.
  • If a member of our community has been here for a year, then by that time they should know the major commitment that it takes to become a moderator. Many of the new players who attain the moderator position aren't fully aware that being a mod will take up countless hours, resulting in less of a social life. This is a major factor as it just leads to more resignations.
I truly do believe that having a one year prior commitment to MC Gamer before a member applies for moderator really would increase the morale and stability of our community. I have no doubt that something like this has been thought of before the creation of this thread, but with the influx of hackers and other rule breakers into our community, experienced Moderators are needed to assist with the well being of our great community, and bring it to its former glory.
Please share your thoughts down below, and if you do support, give your reasons and I will add them to the reasons section of this post.

I have to admit, this suggestion is pretty decent. However, I am pretty sure in the application requirements that they needed people with previous experiences in moderating and administrating. Also, I do believe that the vast majority of moderators here today have had a large history between them and the community before they became moderators, however, I would also believe that staff members could go for acknowledging any future applicants to make sure they are already well recognized by the community and the staff team, this could also be a requirement needed to make sure they know who they are hiring; acknowledging the applicants to see what their reputation is like between them and the community.

Overall, I would think this thread could go for being a little more recognized, and see what the staff think about this. :)

EDIT: Also, is it alright if you add a "Maybe" vote to the poll? Because I still am a little unsure. C:

I think the current requirements are good enough. It is not like we have a major problem with moderation quality right now. Sure it could be better, it always could, but I would rather have more people banning hackers. The more restrictions the less mods. Also, it is really hard to get accepted without being very active in the community.

Two years in this community. Still two or three years away from the age requirement. I'll be there one day!!!!

Anyway, I like this idea, but as I have to admit, most mods now do their job very well. It's just that the community always expect more from them. If they ban a hacker, there will be that person that complains about not banning him before. If a mod warns people, he will be told to warn them faster.

Also, the requirements are fine right now, as arsenal said. But still, this idea is good, and can't do anything to harm the community, yet make it better.

I just had my 1.5 year anniversary, and I feel that this is very necessary. I'm also thirteen as well, so no applying yet.

Actually, you can make an age exception to becoming a moderator, it generally is rare, but possible. I think you can contact a staff member about this. :)

If that is so the case, then it will hopefully not be too difficult to find, I think you can search it up in the search bar. I wish you good luck. :)

I don't like this idea, just because you do not have a years worth of experience should not count you out with in the community. I know many of the mods have not been in the community for a full year but do a very fine job. The staff can tell if you are good or not, time does not always determine it.

I know, but the chances are rather slim, considering my irl situations right now.

Ok, now get back to the original intent of this thread. :p
