i think the sand in the middle needs to stop naturally in stead of just straight away

That's what I'm going to do in mine. It'll have a huge minecart clock underneath, powering the four main traps. Each quarter of the arena (too hard to do twelfths) will have a different one, and they'll cycle just like in the book.

I hate Thrid Quarter Quell arenas. You can find 40 of them on planetminecraft and some of them are better than the most on this site. No offence
