Hello members of the mcsg forums, my name is TheCakeMC. Typically I'm known for "Troll" threads or "Pointless" threads, whatever tag pleases you.
Although, today I am here to talk about something more serious.
Recently, if you haven't noticed many, members on the forums are talking about getting DDoSed.
Well hopefully in this thread I can clear some stuff up and supply some useful information to you peoplezz
First lets start off with what does DDoS stands for
So, DDoS If you didn't already know stands for Distributed Denial of Service well, what does that even mean?
I'm going to use an analogy here. So lets say you are at an airport, you and everyone else are just peacefully entering. Then all of the sudden an extremely large group starts shoving and pushing their way into the airport letting other citizens not be able to get into the airport, or just get in a lot slower.
Its almost the exact same way when somebody is DDoSed.
So here is how it goes down. Everything on the internet is just a series of packets being sent back and forth, a packet is just a bunch of data for example when I play MCSG, and I hit somebody with my sword my computer will send some packets to the mcsg servers saying this user just hit this person then the servers will send packets back telling my computer that the hit registered, and the player will turn red then it will send packets to the other player taking away some hearts. This is were ping comes into play blah blah blah but I wont go into that. Back to the topic, when someone is DDoSed multiple computers use programs to send insane amounts of packets to this one computer/server, usually a request to download something, which just floods the computer causing it to not be able to send all these packets everywhere and if it is a successful attack their internet will usually crash for a bit, depending if they keep getting flooded or not. Or like I used in my analogy they will just do things a lot slower. Also it kind've annoys me when people say "Somebody is DoSing me" because DoSing is referring to one computer, and one computer can't really do much to someones internet, just to clear that up
Okay, so here it is all this information to clear some things up. Like I said earlier there are lots of forums and players on MCSG that like to think they are getting "DDoSed" No one person triggered me to write this. It is mostly an accumulation of all of these posts and complaints out there. So guys, I know there are some sites out there where you can pay to DDoS someone, but these are quiet expensive. (Yes, there are other ways, and yes I know them, but I do not want anyone to actually DDoS) So please stop complaining about getting DDoSed because in all reality you probably aren't. If your internet ocasionally goes out. THAT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL!! It does not mean you are getting DDoSed!! As well as your internet might be slow, or act a bit funky. That is also normal! The chances of this happening to this many players is absurd, so next time you complain about getting "DDoSed" think twice before posting.
*Ends Rant*
Note: this wasn't meant to target anyone or offend anyone. Just clearing it up so you know next time!
Have a noice day ~Cake
