Terrible Death Glitch

I was running around in my diamond armor dominating the game when I jumped into a pool of water. As soon as I hit the water, I died because I "fell to my death." This has happened to me MANY times before. Why does this happen?

I was running around in my diamond armor dominating the game when I jumped into a pool of water. As soon as I hit the water, I died because I "fell to my death." This has happened to me MANY times before. Why does this happen?

You may have it a spot where it was only 1 block deep. water needs to be at least 2 deep to survive the landing.

No. This was around 5-7 blocks deep.

And I die the moment I touch the water.
