Although I don't support the rule, I guess that's why it's in place because sometimes it's hard to determine if someone is joking or not with only text in chat. I've seen totally innocent people banned for joking around about it being sarcastic, answering someone elses accusation. I've also seen cocky hackers freely admit to using hacks too. How do you know if someone is joking or not?
You don't, so don't ban them

Yeah idk, I think maybe I agree with you, give them the benefit of the doubt and concentrate on banning the people who are blatantly hacking, guaranteed every single game you'll see at least one of them.

Admitting to using a modded/hacked client, even jokingly, will result in a ban
We aren't harsh, it's just the rules. It isn't a hard rule to follow, it's quite simple if you ask me.

About DDoS Threats, this sums it up amazingly:
DDoS threats are serious. It's a serious thing to say and not something that gets taken lightly. Just be civil to each other in chat, it's that simple.

The problem is with what counts as an 'admission'

complete joke of a rule
Or, here's an idea, you could simply not proclaim to the universe that you hack? I really don't understand the thought process behind people who do this. You really need to stop stating your arguments blatantly and without any form of reason or evidence behind them whatsoever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We do not take DDoS threats as a joke. Just because you say "JK" afterwards it doesn't mean anything... You could simply say "I cant wait to DDoS you" then say "JK" after to try and counter the ban. It simply does not work like that.

DDoSing is nothing to joke about. In both the US, and UK DDoSing is a Federal crime.

This sums it up quite well. Along the lines of admitting to hacking;

If a player says, "I am a hacker" then they proceed to say "JK", how are we supposed to know they are not joking? Are job is to follow that player around and if it seems that they are actually hacking then they will be punished accordingly. If they do not seem to be hacking then they will still be punished for admitting to hacking.

We don't just sit in the hub waiting for someone to admit to hacks and then immediately ban them,a lot goes on behind the curtains.

Lastly, you may see the punishment guide that all moderators use:

Adding on to what other staff members have already said. Admitting to hacks is not a first offense permban. You get banned for 7 days to start off, after that it's a permban. So with that, if you were joking, just know never to do that again. We don't really care if it's a joke, hacking is a serious thing and it ruins gameplay for everyone else.

As for DDoS threats. That is a real crime. It doesn't matter if you are joking, if you live in the US and say that, you are breaking federal law. You're lucky to only be permbanned from a minecraft server rather than be put to trial in court. As for EU, I think it's illegal in the UK but other than that I don't know. DDoS threats for sure deserve a permban.

That's not how it works lmao
DDoS is against federal law in the United States, according to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Since it is a federal crime, if you are over the age of 18, you will be held in federal court. Offenders under the age of 18 will be held in a juvenile court setting.
