Guys, if you want to do the same process on a MAC computer
1) open finder and your "username"'or computer nickname files (Home)
2) go into application support
3) go into 'minecraft" folder
4) open 'bin'
5) copy and paste your 'minecraft.jar' file somewhere where you can access it.
Now you can update the original minecraft.jar and still have the 1,2.5 version to go back on to get onto servers
