Phantom Noises

Now, I don't know if this is simply lag, or a slight bug, but I constantly hear the noises of people walking around near me in-game. I have even stood still for a good 10 minutes and still continued to hear these noises. My best guess is maybe i am hearing spectators nearby?...either that or it is exceptional lag.
