The Survival Games is probably more of a resource hog because it has a lot of world loading and teleportation. By crash, do you mean your whole Minecraft stops working, or that it disconnects you from the server?

When you open the Minecraft launcher (where you log in) click options then force update to make sure you're client is the default. Otherwise all I can recommend is playing on lower settings, putting more or less RAM towards Minecraft specifically and close other processed programs. If you need any additional help check out: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crash and use Google describing your problem to see if somebody, possibly on the MinecraftForum's has a solution.

This should be in General Support. The people who mainly post there should be able to help.
