Most people think that only moderators have a right to enforce the rules, which is true, but that doesn't mean ordinary people have no right to remind people of the right thing to do (casually), it's just that some people make cues whilst reminding that give the person who is listening irritated, and automatically giving them the impression that this person is trying to butter-up people seeing that to get more stability to get moderator, which is a common misconception amongst players which isn't true.

Both sides, mini-mods and the people who are irritated need to clear themselves, and another misconception with the moderators being supreme and us shouldn't need to do anything needs to be cleared up as well. Either way…

Being a mini-mod is expecting rewards for your work.

Being a good citizen is reminding those who forget.

Mini mods are really annoying, it's so obvious they do it just for their personal deal (or should I say rank)

Mini-modding is a thing, that is something I'm sure that we can all agree on. From reading this thread, it seems that we can also agree that these mini-mods are trying to either help out the community, or try to get themselves noticed by the staff as a potential future mod. What seems to be the problem here is that people don't like getting told around/getting "warnings" from these so called mini-mods, that they are annoyed of people of the same sort of power level trying to assert themselves as a higher up.

On the mini-mods just trying to help out, by giving friendly reminders and such, they're completely fine in my book. They're not doing anything beyond what they are able to do, and that's fine. However, those that try going beyond their given power, like trying to give warning or threatening to ban, that's when they're crossing the line. It's at that point where I know they're trying to put themselves above me so I do what they say. I wouldn't fall for such, for without proof of a being part of the staff team, you're not above me, and can't order me around like you run the place. That's reserved for the staff and staff alone.

While that is my two cents on it, I don't believe that people are going to read it and go "Geeze, he's right. I'll start being that way too". It's not that simple. While this may seem like a simple debate like teams or bad staff (Not saying they're true, rather subjects that get argued a lot on here), there's a more underlying disagreement here. As I stated above, this isn't a problem with mini-mods, but rather to a more select group of people that are trying to assert themselves as higher ups to people of the same ranking around them.

What I'm getting at here is that these "debates" are going to be around for a while, for you can't simply change a person's reaction of how to react when put into this scenario with the flick of the wrist, or with one counter-argument. If we're looking for a solution to stop the complaining here, something needs to change. Either that we all come to a consensus on how we should handle ourselves when imposed with one of these power imposers, or that we remove people who try to assert their fake dominance so there is no disagreement to begin with.

Can I give you more likes?

Anyway, the people you said who are just being friendly annoy me simply because most people here are too uptight and downright irritating. But what you said about the select group who go above and beyond are the real issue. They try to exert their authority over you, when they are in no position to do so.

It's like a nobleman being told what to do by a peasant. There may be nothing wrong with the peasant doing so, but the nonleman isn't going to take kindly to it.

I watched the first season in 2 days. If I really were in fluenced I'd have the nobleman behead the peasant right there and then.

I can understand the annoyance, for from what I've seen they simply say stuff like "Do not spam" or "Don't flame", it's like speaking to a robot, which is never fun. If they tried to put it in a more human manner, I feel as thought it would be for the greater good. (This idea was in Lively's post on this thread, gotta give credit to where the idea came from)

As for the nobleman metaphor, I would change it to that one peasant is trying to act like a nobleman, with trying to assert the same level power as one to his fellow peasants. However, those peasants now he doesn't hold such power and throw filth at him instead. That's the better metaphor for this scenario, for we have the same power level as the extreme group, not more.

There's nothing wrong with mini-modding or as it would most appropriately be called, helping- usually. The problem is when people who act like mini-mods get their place in the community mixed up with an actual mod. Rather, I find that to be the definition of a mini-mod; someone who has gotten their place confused with that of a mod.

I personally feel like mini-mods undermine the staff's role in the community as well. But that's just me. Leave it to my own server to suffer the consequences of this outlook on it. :p
