minecraft out of memory

while in the main lobby before a game, a message saying that i have ran out of memory will pop up a minute or two while in the lobby.

help, i tried not playing in fullscreen, but that does not work

This is mainly due to your RAM, you can try deleting worlds you don't need and texture packs, but often the only solution is to upgrade your RAM. You could also try using lower render distances, reducing particle effects and turning off clouds.
