Can someone please fix quarter quell already... Like all dm does is strike you with lighting no matter where you are, the game always crashes after the time is up in lobby, in catching fire the whole map floods, sometimes it doesn't even tp you to the game map and ur stuck in the lobby, and worst of all; the new maps are STILL not in. Also there is no way to win deathmatch because the lighting kills everyone before they even have a chance. PLEASE

Not a big fan of 1.8, it really sucks though. But the only thing i like about 1.8 is removing block-hitting. Even scrandies block-hit.

Not a fan of 1.8 but I'm not complaining, as always thanks to all the developers!

Unlike many people here, I actually like how we're fully switching to 1.8! All the new awesome blocks can now be used in new maps ;)! As for pvp, blockhitting is gone, but I think we will all get used to the update.
PEOPLE YOU CANNNNN STILL BLOCKHIT THEY JUST REMOVED THE ANIMATION TEST IT OUT IT WORKS THE SAME WAY BUT WITHOUT THE ANIMATION!

@everyone who still asks why we're dropping 1.7 support

If we drop 1.7 and make MCGamer fully 1.8, we can take full advantage of 1.8 features as well as fix any incompatibilities/inconsistencies that arise from needing to support 1.7 and 1.8 at the moment (for example, flying in 1.8 will get you lagged back because the server registers the 1.7 flying speed as the acceptable movement rate).

@everyone who says that 1.8 is bad for PvP

We thought the exact same thing about 1.7 when it came out. Sure, when I tried playing MCSG with 1.8 for the first few times I was like 'ayy lmao this is so trippy smh' but you get used to it- the hardest thing for me to adjust to was the new damage animation- playing with sound on always has and always will let you know when you get a hit, if you find it hard to distinguish hits visually. Blockhitting is still possible, it's just the animation is poopy.

Repeat after me everyone: "Everything is going to be fine."

Everyone is freaking out about the move to 1.8, and already people are proclaiming the end of MCSG. We're still growing in terms of server population, and I doubt a change like this would change that.
I've been here since the 1.6 and 1.7 updates, and I've heard it all before. The reasons have changed, but the general tone never does. Anyone who knows the history of Minecraft updates knows that everyone hates everything about an update until they start to live with it, and then they can't imagine living without it. Give it a month. After that, the whole 1.8-only issue won't even be a thought.

I will repeat something that someone else said today though: "If you truly are a good gamer, you'll adapt to the changes and still find a way to win." Gamers who play for fun don't mind the changes. Gamers who play to win will adapt and overcome. Gamers who can't help but whine are the ones who get left behind.

From a Development standpoint, remember that the move to 1.8 is generally good for future developments, because we aren't anchored by the aging 1.7 anymore either. 1.7 may run "better", but that's because it's been around for over a year and thus modders were able to come up with the best efficiencies; they will do the same with 1.8 soon enough. 1.8 brings in a bunch of back-end improvements that we can take advantage of, including an integrated Spectator function. And being able to code exclusively for one version of Minecraft should streamline Development work, since now you aren't coding for two versions and making them cooperate.

I hope no one is blaming Chad, Devin, or the Developers for this change, because to be honest, they're merely reacting to the changes that Mojang enforces upon us. I was talking with Rusty earlier, and he stated that 1.8 fixes a lot of screw-ups that they left in in 1.7 (in addition to making a few more, because Mojang aren't the greatest coders). We too would prefer a stable update schedule or a lot of smaller updates instead of the large overhauls like 1.8 is bringing us, and thus cut down on the amount of revision and adjustment needed to acclimate to the new version. But alas, Mojang makes its will known, and we must obey.

Just think about it this way, 1.7 is teeming with hacked clients, 1.8 not so much. So the people who will suffer most is those whom are desperate to cheat on the servers to win.
