Is optifine considered cheating?

My computer kinda sucks, so I've been using optifine to help minecraft to run better. Its really annoying to play with a tiny render distance and it makes it a lot harder too. Now I think because of the new anticheat thing it won't let me on the servers either

Cheating: Things that give you an advantage ingame. Optifine doesn't except reducing lag but the lag isn't supposed to be there so it isn't cheating
