Well heres another point of view. Theres three people in the DM. if a person has nothing he could run around to wait for the other person who has better stuff to die. Then he could come in grab the stuff and run, put on the stuff and have a small chance at winning.

make a truce with them, put some armor and food on the ground near where you are. Then, go in for the kill while they're busy picking it up, and finish them off with a bow if u have to. if their noobish to not have anything to fight with in the deathmatch, then theyre noobish enough to fall for it

run in the iner circle so they dont gain as much distants
