My situation with my parents is... interesting. They know that I play minecraft and think it's kinda educational. However, my parents are violence-freaks (I could only watch pg-13 movies after I turned 13 and I'm not allowed to pay M rated games or any shooters), so when they heard I played "hunger games" in Minecraft they tensed up. This was back in Summer 2012, and when they learned that I *gasp* killed people in the hunger games they immediately outlawed it. I was pretty devastated because I was having a ton of fun playing on hunger games servers. After a few weeks, I got the nerve to play a sg round again. Eventually I figured out that I could play mcsg right in front of my parent's faces without them knowing because they had no clue what minecraft was supposed to look like. So yeah, I've played on hunger games servers for close to two years now even though I''m not allowed to :p.

As for friends, my parents know the names of some of the people I talk to and think it's cool that I play with people all around the world. But I'm definitely not open about what I do and they have no clue that I participate in stuff like these forums.
How old are you?

My mum thinks that I could be talking to pedo's -_-
You might just be...

My situation is actually not bad While I started talking to my friends at school, I then started talking to strangers. I oddly never thought about it much, but then one day my mom asked who I was taking too. It was kinda awkward situation... I told them a guy who plays minecraft too. I was worried about what they were going to reply to that, but she said ''Ok, well don't tell anyone anything too personal.'' The most i've told anyone here was my state and first name... that's it. So yea.

My parents know just about everything I do online. They know I have tons of friends I regularly play with. They know people who dislike me have DDoSed me before. They know that Ive told people what state I live in. Ive even told them about my plans this summer to meet up with some of my closer online friends and are completely fine with it. Apzy TootieFruitie and ShotCakes at the mall pls. In general they trust me to stay out of trouble and stay safe online.
Edit: In other words they dont think everyone online are 40 year old men with handlebar mustaches wearing trench coats in dark alleys with malicious smiles.
WE SHOULD MEET UP TOO Y'KNOW!

I'm actually pleasantly surprised how much they're okay with what I do. They know I talk to people from other areas both by voice and in writing, but they trust that I'll not to be an idiot. They didn't really mind that much when I started. I've told them some about things I do. I told them when I won a donor last year and when I got VIP. I showed them around Vida Cova and they thought that was neat. I've shown them some of my favorite builds as well. One time my mom did a surprise inspection on my posts last year to see what I was doing. She browsed through a bit and was like "This is all you really do?" So overall, they're pretty chill about it.

My mom knows very clearly what I do. She knows I go on TeamSpeak, plays League of Legends, and use Skype with people from all over the world. My little sister has seen me doing video chats over Skype, and even karaoke as of a few days ago. (don't ask..)
Just yesterday, my mom took me shopping and told me to get some "gaming snacks". She knows how much I play, that I forum, and I've even told her that I recently hit 4k posts and placed within the MCGamer Awards (Or rather, I jumped around the house in excitement. XD)
Sometimes we used to have 4-hour long drives almost every week, and often they were late at night. In order to keep her awake while driving, she asked us (her kids) to talk about various stuff, so I talked about Minecraft most of the times. I've mentioned drama on MCSG, Dave, Col, HalfSquirrel, RC, and a ton of other people. She also knew and was relatively supportive of me when I was involved with clans, and sometimes made exceptions for me when I had clan battles. (Although I never asked her to, because I don't want to inconvenience her, but eventually she noticed that I was upset because I couldn't battle on Saturdays like pretty much everyone else because of church, and finally let me stay home once in a while)
Dang, your mom is pretty cool!!

I can't imagine telling my mom about what I do...they think all I do is play around in stupid games.

I mean, if I tried showing off some builds or stuff to them, they'll hardly pay attention and be like "Oh ya dats cool" in a uninterested voice. :(

Dang Moo, your mom is cooler than the other side of the pillow.

Anyway, my parents are pretty familiar with what I do online. I think at first they were a bit skeptical to hear that I was talking to strangers online as they thought they could be 40-something, but once I started voice-chatting with them and actively playing video games with them it became fairly clear that they weren't in their 60's. :p

I feel like parents are worried about us talking to "strangers" because they didn't grow up with the Internet. Today, we can talk to someone halfway across the world while playing in a virtual game by clicking a few buttons. Back then, there was none of that.

Anyway, my parents know that I play minecraft and talk to friends. The thing is, they think they're friends from school that I know in person. I'm too scared to tell them that I talk to people I don't know irl... However, I have told my parents about my youtube channel. I had to tell them when I was getting my partnership in order to set up PayPal, etc. My dad was actually really proud of me and quite interested by the fact that I could make money by uploading a video game on youtube. He asked me what my channel was but I said I didn't want to tell him. All I said was that "I record myself playing a game and upload it to youtube where people can watch it." I didn't tell him I talk to people on the Internet, go on the forums, etc. I would love to tell my parents about everything I do, but I'm too scared they will get upset and take everything away from me.

Thanks for making this thread duckluv, it's fun to see peoples' responses :)

My parents are absolutely fine with me talking to people from this community, the first time I told them they just told me not to do anything stupid. My parents seem to be more scared of me being on the pc too much than of me talking to strangers.
