So yeah, I'm getting a new laptop, and while I know my way around computers etc, I would still like opinions on a few things. I've already chosen the laptop, it's a Lenovo e540 for interest (link, the one I am looking at is the 3rd option, it offers the cpu upgrade also but doesn't lock me into a bigger HDD) and I am 100% getting the graphics upgrade to the GT740m. (also upgrading the screen to 1920x1080)
What I want to know, is if it's really worth it in the long run to upgrade from the i5-4200M to the i7-4202MQ. It is an extra $200 or so dollars, and I want to know if there would be any particular advantage, and if so what kind there would be (significant FPS increase, faster in general, longer life, decreased battery, etc)
It's just I have heard differing opinions on this, some people thing that the i7 has no particular increase over the i5 in laptops, and some people say in computers in general. Then others say that there is a large difference. So yeah, that was with the 3rd gen processors, and I have no idea if that applies to Haswells etc, I haven't stayed too up to date. From my reading it would be better, but if anyone has an idea how much it would be good xP
Another thing I'm wondering about is 8gb of RAM- 1DIMM or 2DIMM? Am I ever going to want more than 8gb of RAM? I use 2 at the moment. xP
Keep in mind that I am a poor student, and would rather not pay for something that I don't need, even if it makes a 1337 rig with hardcore hax, I don't care.
So don't just vote the i7 because it's betterrr, only vote the i7 if you think that it is worth it. xD
Thanks ^-^
