You most likely aren't using the right version. It's 1.7

That's the point. If it's his, then he would know by checking to see other sources that serve Wi-Fi

My brother had this problem, and it took a pretty long time to fix.

Try some of these (again if you had already):

1. Use a program called CCleaner to clear all of your cache's. I know its not related, but my brother did this while fixing it and it fixed.

2. Take out your Save file, extract your servers.dat file and also take out your Versions file. After, completely delete MC, all the way out of the recycling bin. (This should be all you need from MC, unless you want your screenshots, texture/resourcepacks.

3. After trying the suggestions above, unplug your router/modem for about 30 minutes, sometimes its just a break that does it.

4. If all else fails, extract what you need on a separate harddrive and reset your comp (if possible)

5. Dont play Survival I guess then :/
