I have had the same problem and the leaves covering the corn? That's what I'm not much of a fan of now. It jsut makes it harder for people to get their hands on stuff and much easier to get spawned killed which ruins almost everyones experience(in my opinion). They get in the way way too much.

There's always going to be bugs on the full release, hopefully they'll be fixed soon. As for the leaves, I personally like it as it adds a different aspect to the start and makes you think more about going for the center or just running.
If you want better stuff without the hassle of going for the corn, try for harder to get to chests as they will now have better stuff in them.
