I don't know if it's just me but I just played a game in Fortune Island and out of my 9 chest chest route i only had 2 that had stuff in them, and i tried to find other chests and they weren't filled either. Then I died and I spectated some people and nobody had good armor except 1 person with 1 iron chestplate and boots. Even corn chests had nothing in them and I was not late to get there. I would say about 1/10 or so of the chests were filled.
Idk if this is a glitch or something but this has only happened to me once playing this map.
Also I didnt lose points when I died, but i think that's a seperate thing.
