Hey fellow tributes...just a little thread I am started up revolving around a 'strategy'. I notice many people like to leave loot they don't 'need' in chests. For example, a player will have iron leggings. They go into a chest and find some chain leggings. Now, most of the people I know will usually leave the leggings in that chest due to the fact that they simply will not need them. My take on this-poor idea.

My reason is if you leave stuff in chests, another player is bound to get that stuff. This also goes for just dropping stuff into a 'trash pile' on the ground. "One man's trash is another man's treasure". Another example: Lets say you have a few cooked food items and you will presumably be good on food for the rest of the game. You decide to drop some extra uncooked porkchops on the ground/in a chest. Something that I can foresee happening is a player with good gear is low on food and needs to eat to regen health. If he finds that chest/food on the ground, you basically just saved his life. And, as we can all tell, that simply means you are making it harder on yourself.

Many people may argue that it is a good idea to keep an empty inventory so when they kill someone, they can just pick up all the loot. This is especially good when you are in a rush or in a chase.

The only workaround I know of is to simply 'delete' the items you don't need. How do you do that? Simple. Fire/lava. If there is lava on the map, it is within your bets interest to dump your extra gear into there. Flint and steel is also useful in making your own fire. Another method is to put the items into a corn chest right before refill. When corn refills, it deletes all the current contents of the chests only to replace it with the new items. I simply do not see enough people that do this when I watch them play/watch their videos.

Thoughts on my 'philosophy' on loot management?

I like this post for many people i have played with have just left a ton of good stuff waiting for me to take it, I personally dont put anything ack in chests unless its anything below gold armor and all wood weapons. But most of the time its the flint and steel. There are some maps that have lava and impossible places to get to so i just dump them in there.

I have always been a very conservative person when it came to gear when I used to play really actively. So much as iron boots just had to come into the inventory with me so I feel what you are saying is true and all the points you make are valid. One thing though, another easy way to get rid of items, duplicate items to be specific, are to repair them with each other which effectively "deletes" the item and clears up inventory space. Even items in full condition can be combined with another, leaving at least 1 of each item in the inventory. Another way to eliminate items is to use them as fuel in a furnace, wooden weapons and such. Essentially what I am saying is, clear inventory space and elimination of exceptional items is essential to a effective strategy in the game. The mere fact that we are studying this just goes to show how dedicated we are to the game. I agree.

I only burn good items that I don't need like chain, gold armour, stone swords, and other stuff. But I just leave leather armor and stuff lower tiered like that in the floor/chest.

Nice, I didn't think about combining items. Thanks for the insight! :D

I'm a major stickler for having an organized, clean inventory, I even throw out extra food I don't need. (Mainly bad food items like melons, cookies, and raw meat). With armor and swords I always combine them, and usually put them in a chest that's not likely to be looked in before refill. Sometimes if I'm extra lazy though I just throw everything out on the ground; I never really think of leaving "treasure" for others as being a possible game-changing situation, though I have no idea how many times it's caused me to die. :p

EDIT: Also, I rarely waste a use from a flint and steel to burn items because you never know how valuable that one use you wasted on burning your items could be in a fight.

I generally keep things such as food, useful crafting items and any armor that is gold or higher. When it comes to leather pieces, swords that are weaker than mine (Besides iron), and axes I tend to throw them away. I get rid of items that I know can't beat what I have. For example, I leave leather in a chest then I think "can a full leather guy have a good chance of killing me?" If not I throw it away. I also take the consideration of how deep into the match we are as in the beginning of the match where others tend to not have much gear I will not leave armor pieces such as chain and gold but when it is deep in the match and I know others are geared I will put it away. Corn refill is the general time when I get rid of good gear in a fire ect.

Because of how quickly my inventory fills up with junk, I find myself more often than not just dumping all the good stuff in a chest anyway.

To be honest, usually my dumping anything worth much of anything is late enough in the game that, not only will many chests be empty and everyone has given up checking, but also, there are far fewer people checking them. Not only that, but the chances of someone particularly good at the game, or much of a threat regardless, getting it, is so low, that I've found myself not caring. I mean sure, I'll pick up a full set of iron out in the open on a small map or in corn, but aside from that, it just takes too much time that, since the chances are so low anyway, I figure it's more worth it to just get going.

Due to things like this, I actually find myself being very impatient in the games. I'll often rush into fights without much thought, or not even attempt to sneak attack someone that I could, because it just..."takes too much time". Too many times I've died due to that last second person coming up from behind: Every second counts. I tend to rush everything. I feel far too slow if I take the time to pick up all the good stuff from the pile that nobody will find anyway, or waiting around a corner for someone who, for all I know, knows I'm there already anyway...it's far more beneficial for me to just get going it feels.

Time is everything in the games. Every second counts. Although it may not seem like it at times, it can really help at others. Being the first to corn, even if it's minutes early, fully geared and ready for refill is great. You don't have to worry about someone already being there, ready for you. As well, it's more likely you will have more gear by that point of the game in general if you don't take your time: Those iron leggings or chestplate can save your life, and it's far better to have these than waste your time throwing out other stuff, even if you had chain before...I'm always in a rush to be places, which is why I dislike being on teams a lot of times, especially large/slow teams. I'm hindered in gear and find myself separated because of my rushing around and get myself killed being distracted talking to them telling my location, etc...

I guess I'm starting to go off topic now, though...still, I think I've made my point. Yes, in some situations, I will burn or deny access to good gear so others can't get it...although most of the time, I find it far more beneficial to just leave it and get going. Sure, someones life might be saved by it, but that happens less often that it saves my life to get out of there. You could also think about it this way...what if the guy who got it died to another guy, who now takes his time to get the stuff and burn it, allowing you time to sneak attack him? Or what if the guy who gets it helps you out later? Maybe he'll just weaken the strong opponents for you with that gear? I'd still rather other people not get the gear, but it honestly doesn't feel worth burning it most times. I quite frequently dump iron gear/swords in random chests around the map.
