So today i decided to attempt at making an avatar. I don't think it looks very good and i obviously made mistakes. So i would like to ask how i did on my first avatar. Rate it 1-10. Also i would like some tips, I use Paint.NET and i couldn't seem to find a tool like the pen tool on Photoshop to make a straight line so i just used my mouse and that didn't turn out too well.
Here's the avatar link: http://imgur.com/atkGZJZ

That's a bit harsh :p

You did pretty well, I'd say 6/10. The key to drawings on Photoshop or Paint.net is practice and a drawing tablet. Wacom make really good ones, I've got the Bamboo. I'd also recommend doing some shading on your avatar, this video might help you out.

Keep practicing!

I don't see how that's a 6/10. To me it seems like a poor quality fins clone. It's a 2d drawing that has more curves and bends than a piece of string that's tangled.

I get that you're being positive, but sometimes you need to hand out pieces of reality.

Personally, I think it is a 6/10 for his first one. I didn't say you were harsh because of the score you gave him, I said it because you gave no explanation, but now you have :)

3/10, sorry to say. It looks nice, but I'm rating it low because these are so unoriginal. So many artists draw in this same style, and it gets boring after a bit. You have talent, but I'd suggest you draw to your own style, instead of following this common "blocky, straight, rectangle background" style of avatars :)

Good luck! :)

I knew it was this bad, I guess i really shouldn't have asked for a rating but just the tips.

I would try to add 3D into it. If you don't know how, watch speed paints by JokersMaze or FinsGraphics. It'll be a little better then :)

as a suggestion, make the head not much bigger than the body. and try to draw the character from an angle instead of right infront of i

I like it... I'm one of the few...
Each person has a different style, and Unuxon was confident enough to put his up for reviews. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't be open to criticism. When I draw my avatars, I never use any tools, except for paintbrush, and paint bucket. So, as you'd expect, my lines aren't strait. But who says they need to be?
