You're right but it would be easier to take advantage of it with your idea rather then the way it is now.
It'd make the game better and more entertaining. No one cares about points nowadays anyway, it'd make things more interesting but you clearly know best.

Sorry that the Wikipedia definition of everything determines what it's like in Minecraft. Let me just Wiki Diamond Sword and see what they look like in real life...

Good job completely avoiding the point that was given in that post. *clap clap*

But... if you put bounty on somebody you're going to kill, you just get the same amount of points as you normally would. You're just getting back the points that you put on them.

Well you would wouldn't you, because unless bloody Elgoldo or a mod makes a suggestion then no one thinks it's any good, if ChadTheDJ made my point, you'd all say it was amazing.
Actually no I wouldn't agree with them if they said that.

I think it would be a bad idea to let players still in the game to use the bounty option.

Your point doesn't really matter seen as anyone can take advantage of the system if they wish to. People can hack, but not everyone does, a lot of people aren't point whores, and play the game because its fun.

In other news, I just killed Philly67 who had a bounty of 7000 put on him, along with the normal kill points it took me from 500 to 8500 points in one game. It's an op system either way, however I think my system is fairer, as the targeted could target back:)

Hahaha, it is overpowered either way, but the game should be fun and not taken so seriously, everyone in lobby's thinks I'm pro now, and I'm nowhere near, the game should be about fun, I think if players could bounty it would be more fun, just saying.

What's the difference from having a bunch of tributes gather up a bounty of 7000 to put on some guy and having a bunch of spectators gather up a bounty of 7000 to put on some guy???????????

Tributes can bounty each other back.

Forget it, none of you get what I'm driving at, fine.

But as Kradium or something something said, when they kill the person they put a bounty on, they just get the points they already used to set a bounty on the person back.

So they earn nothing, and the entire bounty system would be useless.

No.. People would just hit someone a lot, put a huge bounty, and then kill them with a single arrow.
And besides that, it gives no sense for tributes to be able to put bounties on someone. From Wikipedia: A bounty (from Latin bonitās, goodness) is a payment or reward often offered by a group as an incentive for the accomplishment of a task by someone usually not associated with the group.
Like KRadium said, you wouldn't gain any points because you'd just be recovering the points you lost.

Back to topic. I'm taking a slightly controversial viewpoint on this. I feel as though this is a brilliant idea! Players would be able to speed up the game because there would be more incentive to fight. Here are some examples of how it could be used:

1) There are 5 players left and a team of 2 is wrecking havoc. You bounty one of the players, and immediately the other 2 players come out to help fight, rather than you fighting them yourself and almost definitely dying. This is a strategy to help you stand a chance.

2) You are in Pre-Deathmatch, and both of the others are pointing bows at you. However, they aren't teamed. You quickly bounty one of them, and immediately one of the bows is pointed in a different direction.

These are just some of the situations in which this idea would be helpful and practical. If there's no real harm in it and there is interest for it, then add it! :)

Btw, what is the problem in bountying points to a friend? Is there a harm in having your friend kill you if you want to transfer points?
