Ehm, it's much easier to get 1000 points now than in beta as when you die with 1000 points you only loose 25 points now, but getting 4000+ is much harder nowThe leaderboard is based on wins, not bounty. The system works 10x better than it did in beta. Back then If you had 300 points you'd lose 50 - 60 points, it was nearly impossible to get over 1000 points without hacking.

I lose around 250 points every time I die.If this wasn't in place then people would just be able to work there way up to millions of bounty points.
Bounty shows skill, it shows you're progression. Losing 40 points for example requires you to kill 8 players average without dying to keep your points positive, which requires skill.
If we lived in your 'happy' world whereas you earn 5 points per kill and lose 5 points per kill... well... I easily kill 2+ people per game, I could work myself up to TONS of bounty - where would the point be in that... bounty would then just be a number. - Right now it's a number but it still shows skill.
