1. Bow
2. Sword
3. Fishing rod
4. Flint and Steel
5. Flint and Steel (if I have a second one. Otherwise, it's the highest food I have.)
6-8. Highest food to lowest. (Golden Apple, Golden Carrot, Steak/Cooked Pork, Pumpkin pie/Cooked Chicken, etc...Saturation is accounted for.)
9. Arrows
My setup is a bit of an oddball because of the first three slots: The bow takes up the first, then the sword the second, and the fishing rod the third. I have it set up this way for a reason: With this setup, I can run into a fight with the fishing rod and only have to scroll once to get back to my sword. In the same fight, I can go from my bow shooting an arrow to blocking instantly. This allows me to have an edge in some bow fights, as I can block some arrows easily. I don't switch between the fishing rod and bow that much, and the flint and steel usually comes with a second of preparation, so it's not a big deal. (In fact, when I come rushing at someone with a fishing rod in hand, they probably don't expect fire.)
Yes: I use the scroll wheel. I never use the number keys. Never have, never will. Although, I'm overdoing it with the mouse wheel right now. I occasionally overscroll. Because of the way I play, I'm testing my limits right now by going as fast as I can, but that does come with a price: When I fail, I fail big time. Still, it's helping me improve. It's always a blast to completely, for lack of a better word, annihilate someone when I do good with it.
