Armor and Weapon strength

What percentage does 1/2 an armour take from a hit? For example, leather boots.

1/2 of a bar of armour gives 4% protection from damage so a full set of diamond armour gives 80% damage to armour and 20% to you so if you would hav taken 5 hearts from a charged bow hit you would only take 1 heart. Hope this helps
