Fishing rod strat help

So a lot of people use this strategy, you right click with a fishing rod and it will "stun" the target. But I need help with this, I right click and attack but they get more hits. If anyone has a video tutorial or would like to teach me via skype that would be much appreciated.

Just go in like a creative world and just try hitting objects with your rod over and over. That's how I started

1. Make sure you can switch to your sword ASAP.
2. Hold out your fishing rod.
3. Right click with it, to use the fishing rod. Aim for them, and try to hit them once. This must be done when they are almost in range of your sword, but not quite. So that you have time to switch to your sword. You should also be sprinting at them this entire time.
4. Switch to your sword
5. Strafe around them. Hit them as much as you can, and keep moving.
6. ???
7. Profit

If they get a hit on you while you're trying to stun them, you're probably too close to them, try using the rod just barely out of their sword reach to you for the best effectiveness on that tactic. It's rather you are too close to them, or you're slow at switching weapons, the fishing rod trick is best with Number Keys in my opinion.
