The monitor fps limit is also very important, if you have a 60hz monitor the maximum amount of fps you can view on that monitor is 60fps, nothing above that will be noticeable, eg: 60fps, 500fps, no difference, basically any amount of fps above 60 is just a number on your screen. If you have a 120hz monitor the maximum amount of fps you can view on that monitor is 120fps. 120-500 no difference. Any amount of fps above 120 is just a number on your screen. You can get monitors that have a 144hz refresh rate now. Heres a good one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VG248Q...8&qid=1382753726&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+vg248qe
144hz, 1ms response time. Only problem is it costs $436.70 :/

There is no exact number and it does vary from person to person.
However the number is a lot lower than any ones predictions on this thread.
It's more like 12-15fps.
Anything higher and the human eye can't really detect the individual frames.

The television standard in the UK is 25fps (PAL)
And the US is 29.97fps (NTSC)

The reason you may hear of television shows or films shooting in 60 or 50fps is to reduce motion blur.
Which gives the final picture a much more unnatural look as we're meant to see motion blur in real life.
That is what drew up much debate with the film The Hobbit, which was shot at 48fps (Film is shot at 24fps)

The only other time you'd shoot at 60+fps is when you're creating slow motion footage.

When you're playing Minecraft and you're getting something like 200fps you're not actually getting that.
It all depends what your monitor can handle which is normally around 50-60 fps, some higher but not by much.
All the higher fps in Minecraft means is its less likely to drop below your monitors frame rate.

So sorry to burst anyones bubble but if your friends trying to say they have a more powerful PC as they're getting 300fps and you're only getting 200fps just know that you're both actually only viewing at about 60fps ;)

If you're questioning this, I have a degree in video production and work in television/film :)

I'm sorry :(

The question is, What is the highest number of frames per second can the human eye notice?

The human eye can't notice any number of frames per second over 12-15, depending on the person and situation.

An average computer monitor produces around 60 frames per second.
If your Minecraft says you're getting 200 fps your monitor is actually only putting out 60fps

However you're less likely to drop below 60fps, thats why some people think they notice the difference between 100-200fps.

Just as added knowledge if you're watch TV in the USA, you're watching programs at 30 fps.
If you're watching TV in the UK you're typically watching programs at 25fps.

Does that explain it better?
