so i gotta do this "percy jackson style" story as a project for my latin class and I wrote this and I hope you enjoy it!
The Journey Through the Underworld
As Peter walked out the door, he heard the faint voice of his mother in his head saying, “Peter, I have to tell you something. This is a lot to take on at once, but you’re the son of Bacchus.” Peter was an 11 year old boy who lived on the west side of Chicago. Nothing much happened in his life, so what was about to happen to him was extraordinary compared to anything else that happened in his life so far. The words of his mother echoed in his head on the way to school. When he got off the subway, he saw a mysterious man in the corner of his eye staring at him. The man was wearing a hood and had a beard that looked almost artificial. The man walked up to Peter and asked him, “Would you like to be able to go anywhere in the universe? Visit or see anyone you want?” Peter thought this was just a lost man looking for money on the Chicago streets, but then Peter thought that he wanted to see his father badly. So he couldn’t resist. Therefore he responded, “I’d like to see my father.” The man snapped his fingers, and his hoodie flew off of him and revealed a man with red eyes, pale white skin, and his beard stretched even farther. A portal appeared and Peter tried to run away from the man and the portal but “WOOSH” it was too late.
After that, Peter woke up in a temple-like building and moaned out loud. He was knocked out due to the portal. He took one step out of the temple and the rocks he was stepping on started to fall. He jumped back and all of the rocks ahead of him fell. At first he didn’t notice that there was a girl hanging from one of the rocks. But as soon as he saw her, he hurried over to help her up so she wouldn’t fall into the bubbling lava. She thanked him and introduced herself. “My name is Maria, daughter of Apollo,” the girl said. Peter introduced himself and they decided that they had to work together to get out of the Underworld. On their way to confronting Pluto to let them back into the real world, Maria told Peter her story. She told him that she also got trapped in the Underworld for the same reason and she had been there for 3 months so far. At the thought of this Peter got scared. As they were walking on their journey. they saw a rickety bridge over bubbling lava. As they walked across the rickety bridge, it shook and “SNAP” the bridge split into two and they had to climb up. Maria, being the daughter of Apollo, shot an arrow that was like a grappling hook and went to the other side. She helped Peter up, and said, “Now we’re even.” The rickety bridge incident was nothing compared to what came next.
They kept on walking and saw a group of what seemed to be skeletal soldiers with a wide arsenal of weapons such as morning stars, swords, and bows. They also wore golden armor on themselves so it was hard for Maria and Peter to beat them in a battle. As the two got near them, the warriors attacked. There was a hoard of them. About 20 skeletons were rushing at them. Maria’s arrows just bounced off of them and she said, “Yep, we’re dead.” But they weren’t! Peter concentrated all of his energy, and they stopped attacking them and attacked each other. Peter had done it! He had put the skeletons into a frenzy and they started to kill their own kind. That was the power that he had from his father. After all, Bacchus was the god of ecstasy. Maria and Peter grabbed the fallen skeletons’ swords and fought off the last of them. That was perhaps the most thrilling thing that ever happened to Peter. They moved on to Pluto’s palace. They walked into the palace, and saw Pluto on his throne with Prosperina on his side. There was a three-headed dog next to him called a Cerberus. He got off of his throne and walked down to him. “WHAT DO YOU WANT?” yelled Pluto as they walked in. Peter said, “We wish to be freed from the Underworld.” Pluto asked who they were, and Peter said he was the son of Bacchus. “Very well,” said Pluto, “If you wish to get out of this place follow Prosperina. She will show you a very important thing to you two I’m sure.” Prosperina showed the two to a cell. In this cell were two men who looked beat and tired. Prosperina whispered, “These are your fathers, I am not allowed to let them go, but I can ‘accidentally’ lose the key to their cell. However, there is only one boat to get out of here.” Maria went into the cell first and brought her father out. When Peter went to go get his father, she locked him in the cell, and said, “bye Peter, thanks for all you did, but I no longer have any reason to help you. I’ve been trapped in here for 3 months! You wait your turn. I am not going to just give up the only ticket out of here to you! Again, bye Peter. Have a nice time in the Underworld!” She laughed evilly and started walking out with her father. But before they left, Bacchus said, “would you like to try my new wine?” Her father told her not to do it but she insisted. She took a sip of the wine, and started moaning and fell right over and hit the ground. Apollo rushed to her side, and punched the ground. Apollo said to Bacchus and Peter, “I know my daughter did something wrong. Please forgive me. You two can take the boat out of the Underworld.”
They took the got onto the boat and talked about their lives for the 2 hours it took for them to ride the boat out. When they got back to that Chicago subway, they said their goodbyes, and Bacchus told him to say hi to his mother for him. They said their goodbyes again and Bacchus snapped his fingers, and disappeared. Peter was happy and sad. He got to meet his father, but he was upset that Maria turned out to be evil. It seemed like such a long time even though it had only been 24 hours. Peter never got to see his father again after that day, but he was satisfied with who he was.
