I've been on vacation recently and arrived to a new 20 minute game patch. In the past I've seen many threads complaining about the game length being to long. I never realizeed the effect it would have on the games til' now. I understand that an hour is to long for some people, but 20 minutes? I've found that the average game (Pre 20 minute patch) Takes about 25 - 40 minutes. A deathmatch is honestly too chaotic with 5+ people still alive. Although in some cases it evens things out, gives everyone just enough time to get a sword and a small amount of armor, it takes the aspect of long term planning away. I've always seen the games in 4 periods of play: Base period - Find a basic weapon, a food source and other misc. items that can aid you over the entire game. Building period - Find the items to particularly aid you in pvp, such as flint and steel, and ingots to make weapons. Conquest period - Gather items and move rapidly throug the map, lose your inital route of chests and go rouge. Endgame period - At this point the game is all but over, a winner is just about decided and now is the time to hunt down the final tributes to find the true victor. My point is, these games are meant to be played long term, 20 minute games do not give you time to determine any positions in the game, who are the careers, who camps where, and who has the initive to win the game.
Just my opinion, a solid 45 minute game would be good enough. It would give a solid amount of time for the games to pick up and for positons to be set. It would be short enough to stop the final 20 minutes of the game being stalled by people moving in opposite directions.
