I wish I could help you from my experience, but much to my surprise when I wanted to talk to people they hardly cared.

My dad banned me from playing Minecraft about 5 times, once literally at 2 AM.
I'm still here.
(Haven't been within 1000 miles of him for almost a year. He was arrested in Hong Kong, and is out on bail but can't leave. woot!)
Yeah, a good idea is to write an essay on it. Put in real effort - Don't make it as good as your normal ones. Make it better. Use big words, provide facts and information. Make it longer, perhaps. Explain how with it, you'll be able to communicate with friends better - You can learn about other cultures, get a feel for how people behave in certain regions and religions. You'll also be able to better communicate with IRL friends (If they have it, too) and whatnot. If they let you play Minecraft, tell them that you know many, many people who Skype with each other, so it's safe? Something along those lines. But the point is, make them beliiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve.

"Donn't stahp. Beliiiievin'." or something like that, lol.

A few things:
1. I've always been a messed up child.
2. He was arrested for forgery, which we think he might be guilty of - So it's good that he was brought to justice.
3. He was blaming one of his (completely innocent) employees of being the forger
4. I get to play Minecraft all the time :D
5. He was never a good father.
