Fishing Rod.

It would take a while to explain, (And you don't want to see me take a while to explain. Trust me, my posts can get long enough as it is. ) and to be quite honest, I feel a lot of people wouldn't even understand. It really does require an advanced knowledge of all the little quirks of Minecraft and it's PvP mechanics...Put quite simply: I feel people are just limiting themselves to the "stunning" ability of the rod and not attempting to explore it's other advantages that, if you really took the time to think about, can be lifesavers. It's even just the simple things like knocking people into walls or away from the water on breeze island so you can close in from the center that I've seen very, very few people actually do in comparison to the amount of fishing rod users I've seen. In this way, I feel I use the fishing rod as a movement manipulator on enemies to predict and control their movements rather than some sort of projectile that stuns temporarily.

I believe what G33ke means is that the fishing rod can be used for more than what you guys think. Although the "stun" tactic is useful the fishing rod can be used for many other things. The fishing rod is used to knock people against walls, make them predict movements, slow others down in water, get your way out of 2 block holes, and much more. Most users of the rod have fishing rods only to stun and they are limiting it to that when it can be used much more efficiently.

This is a good tactic but it is very annoying sometimes xD. I personally wish that they would remove it.

I rely too much on a fishing rod now once you get the hang of it its hard to stop.

Yea, that's not really the reason they were talking about the fishing rod. Although, you are right

There's a trick when you don't waste any durability at all.

You just fish someone and you don't right click again you just hold a other item and it won't waste any durability.

I use the fishing rod to off guard and then it flings them back and they can't hit for a couple seconds

I don't use it as amazing as xSwagGiraffe to make people lose their sprint, but I use it for getting the stun effect on occasions for incredible conbos

I like to try to do that same thing

Use it for trying to stun them and get a combo of 3-4 hits on them while they can't hit you It helps, and gives you a big advantage.
