Is This Okay?

So I'm new here (very) and I'm not sure at all how joining a game works. I saw a server that wasn't full and joined, but the game appeared to be only half-over and I had spawned right in the center of the field. I didn't know what I was supposed to do or if I was supposed to be there, so I disconnected immediately. Would it have been okay for me to just chill out and wait for the next match or no?

You go to http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/servers/ And look out for a server that isn't gull ( Keep in mind that it works slowly so mostly server will look empty but are full ) Lobby means it hasn't started yet, In game that they are playing already ( You can still join but you'll be a spectator and be able to fly around with nothing able to do ( use it to find chests and stuff if ur new )) Restarting means the server is restarting after the game ended, Deathmatch means the final battle is going on and that the server will be going to restart soon.

Ok When a game starts, people who die or join are called "spectators" this means you can fly around and watch the game till its end you can also spectate different people by clicking or going /spec stormphraxl (for instance).. When the game is over, that is one person remaining, the server will restart and it will be in lobby for 5 minutes. Then it will go into game.
