TO ALL READERS: In case you didn't read/understand the title, this issue is mac-specific only.

So, pretty much I'm having this issue where my computer (A mac desktop) just goes to sleep randomly - I know it's not shutting down because I can still hear it "humming"; if it'd been shut down, it would stop making noise at all.

I pretty much just get a black screen for 5-10 seconds, and at one point if I click my mouse, the screen will come back.

I used to have this issue on very rare occasions, but I've had it twice throughout the day, and 3 times in the last 10 minutes.

Other information: - Prior to going to sleep, I will lose all sound (In minecraft, music, etc.)
- If I'm in a skype call, the call will end, I will go offline until the screen comes back
- I've restarted my computer multiple times, still get the same result

If you have a solution, are experiencing similar issues, or need more information, be sure to leave a reply!

Do you have Hot Corners activated?

It should be under System Preferences. Click on Desktop & Screensaver. Under the screensaver tab should be a button labeled "Hot Corners." That will let you configure which corners are active, and what their function is.

Alright, so no hot corners were active. Should I select disable screen saver for all 4?

No, that won't do it. Hmmm, I'm at a bit of a loss. Let me do some more research and I'll get back to you.

Find anything?

Just FYI, I had this crash 5 times in the last 5-10 minutes, in between each crash, there was no volume.

Please help!

The fans on my Mac go for a little bit after it goes to sleep too, it's just a OSX thing.

Question Time:
  • Is your mac old?
  • Is it running off of its battery?
  • Do you notice it getting really hot before/when it shut down?
Check System Prefrences/Energy Saver and see if "Computer Sleep" is set to 1 min. Maybe the computer thinks you're not doing a anything and shuts off.

Run software update if you haven't yet, there might be a fix for this in an update.

All I have off the top of my head.

I'll try all of these.

I tried the energy saver/sleep time, and it's set to one hour, so that's not the issue.
Also ran the software update, which has no new software available (I'm up to date).

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, the mac is older, about 5 years old.
2. Not sure what you mean by the seconds question, it's not a laptop if that's what you meant.
3. I actually did notice it was quite hot when it shut down.

Thanks!
