Auto Item Organizing

So I watch ThatOneTomaHawk (Big fan, i no newb), and he seemed to automatically sort items in the way he wants them by simply shift-clicking something. For example, he shift-clicked a Diamond sword in his inventory, and it automatically switched out his Iron Sword in hotbar slot 1.

How do you do this?

Not sure if that's what you mean, but if you hover over an item in your inventory and press a number, the item goes into that slot on your hotbar.

That isn't really fair, can you show video evidence of this? I'd like to see.

No all you do is hover above and item and press the number slot where you want it to be!
