Hey guys Whiplash here, need a bit of help installing some mods onto minecraft. I prefer not to use modloader and those other loaders ect. On 1.5 i was able to learn how to install mods such as TMI and Optifine (only mods i really want)

However since the new update it seems my launcher has merged with the old launcher or some such nonesense.

The reason this happened is because i was playing, a... err.. somewhat not legitimate copy of minecraft. So with the new update, i downloaded the new launcher, which has a better copy protection and you need a registration. So i bought the game (Glad i did!!!)

When i downlaoded the new launcher however i still kept my old Jar file, i ignored this and followed the steps to install TMI on 1.6 (make a copy of the version, rename in all the right places {im not complete noob i did rename them correct}) and i extracted the files to the right place. (yes i deleted META-INF) When im in the launcher i have about 3 profiles, one is Whiplash, one is Optifine, one is TMI, and i have set the settings to use the "version" of the corresponding mods. It says in the bottom right corner before i click play, "Play Minecraft Modded"

Wel.. at least i have a skin thx to purchasing the game. But no mods. And i cant play single player when im offline now (please help with that)

Long post... any help?
Im thinking i need to uninstall and reinstall which i dont mind doing, however Minecarft is not in the "Remove Programs" list. Really with all the %appdata% crap its made editing game files kind of annoying. What happened to the good ole days of Program Files...

I suggest saving important stuff like the server.dat file and your saves folder. Then delete your minecraft folder and run the new Minecraft launcher to download the files. Hopefully this helps. The new clean jar should help you install the mods correctly.

I agree with endthebean. Use Magic Launcher. It is so, so easy to install mods.

Fun Fact: The creator of Magic Launcher is the creator of Optifine, so it's pretty safe to download

When I try downloading mod loader on magic launcher, it says '11 errors' and gets stuck on mousing screen :/
But optifine works fine on it! :D
