Strange FPS drops on certain maps

Hi guys- I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a really weird problem which has been happening to me recently.

I recently bought a pretty good laptop and have good connection, and so generally run about 70 fps (giving me no excuse for being bad :p ). However, on certain maps, I drop to 0 fps. I''m getting about a frame every 5-6 seconds, if that. This will happen for about a minute and then I will go up to 70 again for about 5 seconds, but everything happens in slow motion, as if I'm sprint jumping on the moon.

This happens to me every time I join Valleyside and Moonlight lake, and also once happened to me on SG4 in the middle of a game. There may also be more which I don't know about.

I searched for it in the forums and couldn't find anything about it, and just wanted to know whether this is a unique problem or a widespread one, and whether it has to do with the servers or my computer/connection, and if so, what, if anything, I can do about it.

Thanks!

I've heard of it before. Don't know how to fix it. Try installing optifine

Perhaps your laptop is overheating? I used to drop from 60-10 FPS in the middle of a game. If so I suggest getting something to cool your laptop.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking of getting a fan for my laptop and also of installing optifine but I looked soon after 1.6 came out and it was really difficult. Not to mention that something ridiculous just happened- I posted this in the forums, went into a server, and won on valleyside with no lag whatsoever. I don't even...

This might be a very filled map with a lot of structures and such like SG2

Valleyside I agree it does have a lot of structures but Moonlight Lake? No.

Also you might wanna use MagicLauncher for installing mods. If you don't know what it is look it up. I was really hesitant about using it but then I realized what a pain in the butt it's gonna be to update optifine.

please dont double post!

But besides that,

Some maps have more Active Redstone such as SG5. Active redstone causes chunks that are loaded to lag players.

question answered thread locked. Wait im to young..

Get Mcpatcher or Magiclauncher to install Optifine real easy.

Is it the same map every time or a different map, if its a diffrent map its probably the fan within the laptop / computer send it back to the makers and see if they can't do anything about it while it is still under warranty.
